It's time for some post-elections analysis... "The people have spoken," says Euromove. "How much can we actually read into a European election in any case? Everybody knows that you can’t change the government as the result of a European election, and the powers of the European Parliament, while considerable, don’t apply to the most important issues of taxation and public spending, so turnout is lower and the PR system makes it more rewarding to vote for minority parties. Was the election  [...] a good guide to anything ?"

A vous de juger France Télévisions

François Bayrou (Modem) and Daniel Cohn Bendit (Green MEP) have clashed on French Television.

"The spat started with former presidential candidate Bayrou accusing Cohn-Bendit of being too close and friendly to the UMP government leadership – “often” telephoning President Sarkozy and of having lunch at the Elysée three times" reports the news website The Connexion. "May 68 rebel, Cohn-Bendit said he found Bayrou’s remarks “pathetic” and that he would “never be president. He added while some people called Sarkozy the “omnipresident,” Bayrou was the “omniopponent."
